SCOPE
Pinewood Studios is a location which requires no introduction – home and birthplace to hundreds of iconic and internationally-renowned films, playing host to Hollywood stars and elite professionals of the film industry. Space were delighted to be appointed to design and fit-out their new studio canteen.
OVERVIEW
Space Group were asked to design, supply and fit-out a new studio canteen at Pinewood Studios. With their current canteen stripped back to brick and concrete, the staff had been using a temporary canteen solution within a marquee and Space were given a 6-week window to get them back in the warm! The interior had to make a statement and a varied food offering, with theatre cooking catered for.
Space pulled together its design, equipment, furniture, interiors and manufacturing teams within the group to complete this project. It was everything we love in a project, starting with a blank canvas and working with our client to realise their vision and completely transform the space.
It was no surprise that Pinewood wanted a statement area, something bold with a production-style theme. Our interior designers incorporated premium finishes, eye-catching design elements and feature lighting. The servery counters were tiled in a herringbone pattern with a monochrome colour palette, bespoke pendant lighting was manufactured using film reels and quirky design pieces were added such as the neon signage, which were a modern reference to marquee lighting, illuminating what’s “now showing†on each counter. The film production theme was further embellished with stills of a black and white film leader countdown being used to produce floor to ceiling graphics. While the industrial style was enhanced with the mix of metal and wooden furniture.
Every project comes with its own set of challenges; in this case, Space had to overcome the discovery of a roof leak, the complexity of the new ceiling designs and working with Pinewood to accommodate the HVAC system on site. We completed the project 2 days within our six-week window and we could not be happier with the results. A unique interior, with an industrial film production scheme, packed with design elements for an iconic client.
