With custom neon signs, specialist boardroom tables and a search through 1950’s image archives, the Space Group project at Kettleby Foods was a truly tailor-made development from start to photo finish.
Space Group’s interiors division were appointed by Kettleby Foods, part of Samworth Brothers, to help them form the look and feel of their new product development kitchen, which included the lobby, customer WC, the chef’s ideas area, presentation area, a large meeting room and a small quiet room.
The brief was to create something bespoke, reflecting a more modern and creative approach to their food concepts, whilst not forgetting the heritage and quality behind the Samworth Brothers brand.
Space Interiors specified all the wall, floor and door finishes throughout, along with the furniture and any light features.
In the Chef’s Ideas area, Space produced an urban feel zone to encourage ownership and creativity, using white washed OSB, key clamp style shelving, large oversized drum factory pendants, and as an eye-catching feature, a custom neon sign reading ‘Live and Eat Cottage Pie’ was commissioned.
So as to not detract from the presentation of the food, a more neutral and classic feel led the kitchen presentation space, although many of the many of the materials and finishes from the Chef’s area were carried through for consistency. This area also links into the main presentation/meeting room, so finishes had to compliment both areas.
Charred lacquered oak, Corian, stainless steel and a concrete effect laminate were all used in great effect to make the area a beautiful space to bring clients into, whilst remaining subtle in the background of the meeting room through the glazed partition.
The meeting room was always about the wow factor, and a key bespoke feature here was a beautiful boardroom table seating 28 with specialist inserts and a concealed power rail that runs around the underside of the table, providing power and USB charging points. Side boards, including one with a built-in drinks fridge and one to take the AV rack, were also commissioned and designed by Space.
Finally the Quiet Room was designed to be an area where clients were able to take private calls and hold one-to-one informal meetings. This area leant itself particularly well to a large format wall graphic and research into the origins of Samworth was carried out by Space and an old photo was chosen to feature. After finding the client’s artwork was too small to reproduce large-scale, Space sourced the actual original 1950 photo from the Samworth archive and scanned it in at a high resolution. The results were fantastic, with all the original detail and colour from a B&W photo from that era coming through.
