Danbury Gardens Care Home

SCOPE

Space Group were appointed for the Danbury Gardens Care Home refurbishment project which involved an updated interior, new furniture and servery counters. The aim was to make the venue seem less like a care home.

OVERVIEW

The Space Group Interior Contracts team worked with Danbury Gardens to create the refurbished space they desired for their Care Home. New carpet and Karndean flooring located font of house distinguishes the dining area from the causal seating area. The new matching curtains and blinds tie in with the interior colour scheme, matching with the furniture, walls and the geometric design tying in perfectly with the feature floor lamps.

The challenge with Danbury from a furniture perspective was to make the venue seem less like a day centre for the elderly and more like a hotel yet still having addressed the difficulty’s some users may have with standard furniture. One key aspect was specifying high contrast colours on the surfaces so users with poor eye site can easily determine where the edge of a seat, arm or table is so they can orientate them self’s with ease. Furthermore, ensuring tables did not have troublesome under rails that normally clash with the arms of wheelchair mean less mobile user can tuck right under the table. Finally, having tactile fabrics with varying textures are often comforting to patients with dementia. While all of these features are standard to the sector, to not make the room look like it is for an elderly day center is the challenge that we feel we have accomplished.

This bright vibrant place to rest, socialise and dine is in a real change from what is the norm in the care industry for which Space Group are proud to have created.

Our specialist manufacturing team created the new servery counter which is situated in front of the lovely wall mural of the history of Leicester. The counters feature hot plates to keep food nice and warm throughout the serving period. The coffee station area was refreshed with new wall finishes and Karndean flooring, while back of house changes included bespoke wall benches and shelves along with new ventilation and M+E works.

Overall, the Danbury Gardens care home refurbishment project was a great success, offering a bright and upbeat environment for its residents.
